Cecilia Aquino, artist and owner of CRA Artists LLC, is based in Northern Virginia. She primarily exhibits and commissions her work along the East Coast in galleries, boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, art events, farmers markets and other unique venues (e.g. “The Annual Barn Show”) as her annual pop-up show. Cecilia also performs painting demonstrations, donates to art auctions for charity, collaborates in mural projects, instructs private "cork and canvas" classes, and has worked in several museums and galleries in Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington D.C., and Florence, Italy.
She works in acrylic paint, ceramic, and mixed media. Her work is inspired by the action of taking away the realistic aspect of a self-portrait and focusing on human abnormality, traditions, religion, fashion and culture. Her focus is on embodying the vulnerability and strength present in human beings.
Since 2012, Cecilia has studied “Orvieto and the Art History of Central Italy” in Orvieto, Italy, completed The Lemon Tree House Art Residency Program in Siena, Italy, and assisted in curating “Conviti e banchetti L’arte di imbandire le mense” at The Stibbert Museum in Florence, Italy.
She completed a B.A. in Studio Art and B.S. in Business Administration-concentration in Marketing at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. In 2018, she completed her MA in Museum Studies at the Lorenzo de Medici (LdM) - Marist College in Florence, Italy.
Post MA, she completed and defended her thesis entitled “Revitalized places of worship: Creative transformations for the benefit of local communities”, and has worked at the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library in Wilmington, Delaware. Currently you can find her as the Experience Design Leader at Anthropologie in Reston, Virginia as she creates and curates all artists displays within the store.
